On Saturday, 4th October, we celebrate Heritage Day together – 'Bicentennial Across All Regions' as part of the 'Events at Sunset' series. Our cemetery, established at the dawn of Uruguay’s independence, holds the history of influential men and women who shaped the nation’s life and culture. Did you know that the site of the current Montevideo City Hall was once the first British Cemetery? Come and discover more about this fascinating history! 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM | Guided Tour A tour of the graves of notable figures who contributed to the life of Uruguay in various ways. Prof. Carolina Lazo Fariello Arch. Eduardo Montemuiño Accompanied by the bagpipes of Patricia Izuibejeres 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM | Talk in the Chapel – 'The British Cemetery Tells Its Story' (1825 – 2025) Attendees will enjoy a conversation led by Prof. Carolina Lazo Fariello and Arch. Eduardo Montemuiño, delving into topics related to the cemetery's history from 1825 to the present day. The event will have sign language interpreters provided by students from TUILSO – FHCE (UDELAR). Doors close at 5:30 PM.
