On Saturday, 14th June, we invite you to a day dedicated to science, memory, and the stones that make history. Did you know that one of the pioneers of geology in Uruguay is buried here? Dr. Karl Walther, a German geologist who settled in Montevideo, was instrumental in the first systematic studies of the country’s soils and rock formations, laying the foundations for this discipline in Uruguay. 3:00 PM – 4:15 PM | Guided Tour – “Science in Uruguay through its Pioneers” A tour of the graves of men and women who have made significant contributions to the country's scientific history. Prof. Carolina Lazo Fariello Arch. Eduardo Montemuiño 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM | Talk in the Chapel – “Dr. PhD. Karl Walther and the Beginnings of Geology in Uruguay” An overview of his career, contributions, and legacy. Ney Araujo Ferreira – Curator and Head of the Geology Section at the National Museum of Natural History of Uruguay. Student and delegate, Lic. in Geology, Udelar. The event will have sign language interpreters (TUILSU - FHCE – Udelar). British Cemetery Free entry Doors close at 5:30 PM
